Goua Robert Grovogui’s (°1987) started acting in the spring of 2004, at only seventeen, he participates in an audition of the American theatre director Peter Sellars, organized by the international art centre deSingel in Antwerp. Together with fifteen other young refugees, he played a walk-on in The Children of Herakles, a contemporary translation of the Greek tragedy by Euripides about democracy and right of asylum. Throughout the many encounters and professional experiences along the past ten years, his CV shows an impressing number of achievements: actor, chef, manager, teacher and holder of several medals in martial arts, with a specialty in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Goua Robert Grovogui has followed a training program with Mia Grijp. He has been an extra in theatre, dance and opera productions, respectively directed by Romeo Castellucci, Philippe Decouflé and Ivo van Hove. He played an important part in the opera Die Entführing aus dem Serail for Muziektheater Amsterdam, as well as in various productions of the French theatre director Jean Michel Bruyère at the Festival of Avignon. Goua has played one the leading parts in the film Wederopstanding van een klootzak that opened the Rotterdam FilmFestival in January 2013 and in the TV film Exit that won the Golden Calf, the Dutch award, for best TV drama of 2013. Goua played some guest roles in TV series as Vermist, Aspe and Code 37.
